After a year of dedicated teamwork between SENELEC and Huawei, the partnership recently showcased their progress in September. Among their notable achievements is the establishment of a cutting-edge national network utilising Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology.

With a substantial capacity of 100/200G, this network is nearing completion and will significantly enhance communication and data transmission capabilities across Senegal. This newfound connectivity will open doors to increased efficiency and productivity within various sectors of the economy.

Leveraging SENELEC’s existing extensive optical fibre infrastructure, which spans over 2,000 km throughout the country, this collaboration ensures maximum utilisation of resources. By harnessing the power of the optic fibres, SENELEC and Huawei can provide seamless connectivity to even the remotest corners of Senegal.

This development is particularly crucial for companies operating in critical industries such as mining and energy, where reliable network coverage is imperative for their operations.

Furthermore, as part of this ambitious project, a secure optical fibre radio network has been developed to streamline critical communications for SENELEC and other public services. This technological advancement will bolster data security and ensure efficient transmission of vital information between various stakeholders.

Additionally, the automation of the electrical network and the implementation of smart energy metering will enable SENELEC to monitor and manage electricity usage more effectively, further enhancing the overall efficiency of the system.

The collaboration between SENELEC and Huawei is not only pivotal for the energy sector but also for Senegal’s overall technological advancement and economic growth. By aligning with the vision of the Emerging Senegal Plan, this partnership plays a crucial role in establishing Senegal as a prominent digital hub.

The technological advancements resulting from this collaboration will attract investments and provide a conducive environment for innovation, ultimately contributing to job creation and economic development.
