Somalia condemns assassination of Hamas leader Haniyeh

Somalia has strongly condemned the recent assassination of Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, labeling the incident as a blatant violation of international law.

The Foreign Ministry of Somalia expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the Palestinian people in response to the tragic event that unfolded in Tehran, where Haniyeh was attending the inauguration of Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, before being killed in an overnight airstrike at his guest house.

While Hamas has pointed fingers at Israel for the assassination, the Israeli government has neither confirmed nor denied any involvement in the incident.

The ambiguity surrounding the responsibility for the attack has raised concerns and led to calls for accountability from the international community.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry of Somalia, the government emphasized its stance against political killings and violence, regardless of the motives behind such acts.

Somalia expressed its fear of a potential escalation of violence, which could result in further violations against innocent civilians.

The Ministry highlighted the urgent need for the international community to fulfill its obligations and take immediate action to put an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza.

The continued violations of international law and UN resolutions by Israel have raised alarm bells in Somalia, as the country stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and calls for justice and peace in the region.

The assassination of Ismail Haniyeh comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Israel and Lebanon on the brink of a potential full-scale conflict.

The recent killing of Hezbollah leader, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut by the Israeli army has further intensified the volatile situation in the region.

The ongoing war in Gaza, where Israel has reportedly killed thousands of Palestinians since the October Hamas incursion, has also exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the area, leaving a trail of destruction and suffering in its wake.

The indiscriminate use of force and disregard for civilian lives have drawn widespread condemnation from the international community.

Somalia’s strong condemnation of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh underscores the importance of upholding the principles of international law and respect for human rights.

The call for immediate action to address the escalating violence and instability in the region reflects Somalia’s commitment to promoting peace, justice, and stability on the global stage.
