Otto Addo, had resigned as Ghana head coach after the 2022 World Cup exit following a 2-0 defeat by Uruguay.
Otto Addo has confirmed he will step down as head coach after Ghana suffered a group stage exit at the World Cup.
Ghana would have advanced to the last-16 with a point in their final Group H match against Uruguay.
Giorgian De Arrascaeta scored twice in the first-half to secure a 2-0 win for Uruguay, with the strikes coming after Andre Ayew missed a penalty which would have given Ghana the lead.
The defeat ended Ghana’s hopes of progressing to the knock-out stage, which has also signalled the end of Addo’s spell in charge.
Addo had initially taken the head coach position on an interim basis in February after Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac was sacked after a group stage exit at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars secured qualification to Qatar under Addo’s leadership by winning a playoff against Nigeria, which led to the Ghana Football Association extending his contract until December.
Addo said it had always been his plan to continue his work as a talent coach for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund following the World Cup.
‘I said it before when I started as assistant coach last year that it was clear I would stop after the World Cup,’ Addo said.
‘At the moment me and my family see our future in Germany and I like my role at Dortmund and we are very happy there.
‘From the day I started I said if we qualified I would resign after the World Cup, even if we are champions.’
Addo was born in Germany to Ghanaian parents and spent the duration of his playing career in the nation.
The 47-year-old began his role at his former side Dortmund back in 2019.
Ghana finished bottom of Group H on three points, after beating South Korea but losing to Portugal and Uruguay.
Portugal topped the standings on six points, with South Korea edging Uruguay for second place on goals scored.
