Airtel Africa CEO receives prestigious lifetime award

Segun Ogunsanya, the esteemed outgoing CEO of Airtel Africa Group, has received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 14th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) 2024.

This award, presented by Africa Leadership Magazine, recognizes his exceptional corporate practice and outstanding contributions to Africa’s business landscape and private sector.

The ABLA awards are a symbol of excellence in leadership, highlighting the remarkable achievements of African businesses and leaders who have made a significant impact on the continent.

Mr. Ogunsanya’s remarkable career and contributions to advancing Africa’s socio-economic growth and development have been duly recognized through this accolade.

With over 12 years of experience at Airtel Africa, Mr. Ogunsanya has played a pivotal role in the company’s success.

His tenure as the CEO of the Group since 2021 has been marked by impressive double-digit revenue growth and the introduction of innovative products and services that cater to the diverse needs of customers across Africa.

The upcoming ALM Africa Summit, where Mr. Ogunsanya will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, is set to be a gathering of distinguished policymakers, private sector leaders, civil society leaders, thought leaders, and stakeholders from Africa and beyond.

His impressive career includes leadership roles at Coca-Cola Bottling operations in Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya, as well as serving as the Managing Director of Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd and Group head of retail banking operations at Ecobank Transnational Inc.

Segun’s background as an electronics engineer and a chartered accountant has equipped him with a unique skill set that has helped him drive success in his career.

As he looks towards the future, Segun remains dedicated to serving the needs of people across the continent, with a focus on digital and financial inclusion.

His commitment to making Africa a better place for its people is evident in his plans to lead the Airtel Africa Charitable Foundation as its inaugural Chair upon his retirement from the company in 2024.
